A couple of weeks ago SURFACE 1°22 ran a Textile Design workshop at the Thames Barrier Print Studio in London! Super fast. Super fun. In a whirlwind of three hours, participants - many new to textile design and art making - designed a series of black and white motifs, played with basic repeat structures and prepared final selections of artwork on tracing paper under the guidance of SURFACE 1°22 creative director, Emily Wills. The studio was bright and warm summer light filtered through the large windows that overlooked the River Thames. Dreamy? Yes.
With only three hours of daylight left, the workshop moved into the screen printing studio where our fabulous host Carolyn demonstrated the exposure process on pre-emulsified screens. SURFACE 1°22 was charmed by the enthusiasm and creativity of these amazing workshoppers, snapping photo after photo of colourful and decorative original motifs and patterns as designers worked in pairs to test and play with their new found screen printing skills.
Big thank you to Carolyn from Thames Barrier Print studio for hosting, and Emma from SPINNA for helping the event materialize.
